1. Role Plays

Creating Role Plays

To begin, navigate to the "Exercises" tab from the side menu. Click on "Click to Build an Exercise" and enter the exercise name and description (optional). Select the exercise format as "Role Play".

Here are some tips on how to create effective role plays.

1. Brief description of the goals of the role play
Example: To simulate a conversation between a doctor and a patient

2. Clearly state the roles

Example: The tutor will play the role of the patient.

The learner will play the role of the doctor.

3. Scenario description

Describe in natural language how you want the scenario to be described to the learner. You can add as much or as little detail as you like. You can give specific instructions like assign a specific name to the characters, where the scene is set, or what is the personality and behaviour of the tutor role.

Example: The learner and AI tutor are shopping buddies trying to pick out the perfect birthday gift for a friend. The AI tutor acts as the friend giving advice, asking guiding questions, suggesting options, and providing vocabulary and sentence structure tips for discussing preferences. The learner plays the role of the friend who's been tasked with finding a suitable birthday gift. They have ideas but are unsure which one to choose. The AI Tutor prompts the learner with questions to narrow down options such as "Do they enjoy books or games more?" and "What's your budget?" The AI tutor also tries to prompt the learner to use adjectives to describe different gift options.

4. Skills assessment

This will enable the AI tutor to provide feedback to the learner on how they did during the role play. Describe clearly what is the skill you are assessing for. Scores are optional.
